After the Rain
Join me for a wander around the garden
After a prolonged dry spell, it was so nice to hear the rain pattering on the windows last night. The garden was looking refreshed and happy this morning, like it was ready for a big growth spurt. I swear I could almost *see* the runner beans getting taller in front of me! Both water butts are over half-full again, which is quite a relief - they had been rapidly approaching emptiness. I gave the polytunnel a good soaking, which perked everything up, before fetching my camera and going for a wander around.
I almost always have my phone in my pocket so I often just take quick snaps using it, but I occasionally get the urge to dig out my old Nikon dSLR and take some “proper” photos. It is nice to slow down a bit and actually think about things like exposure times and aperture, rather than just pointing and clicking with my phone.
It feels very Instagrammy – and almost rude! – to post a heap of photos here without much writing. But here you go – a bunch of photos from my wander around the garden earlier today, taken using my big camera. I really should start using it more often.
I know it’s only May so it’s really far too early to say it’s going to be a good year for fruit - there’s still so much time for things to go wrong! - but... [whisper it] it looks like it might be a good year for fruit! The new bushes I got for my birthday in March have settled in well and are looking good; the plums, pear, and cherry trees are covered in little fruits; the blackcurrants are festooned with berries; even the gooseberries have mostly avoided sawfly this year.

Posts here are always going to be free, but if you like what I write and find it useful, I’ve added a ko-fi button below if you want to show your appreciation.

Beautiful photos and it was so lovely reading about all the growth and activity in your garden. 💕
