Hi! I’m Cat, and I live with my oyster-farmer husband, our son, a collection of cats, chickens and ducks, and a tortoise, on a little island off the west coast of Scotland. I try to live seasonally and sustainably within my local environment, and I post rather sporadically from my little cottage by the sea, on topics such as growing, foraging, preserving, living simply, and exploring my surroundings.

I grow and preserve as much of our own food as possible, save seeds, bake bread, knit, crochet, and darn endless piles of holey socks (all with varying degrees of success!).

I aim to post a couple of times a month, but because I don’t want the pressure of having to post regularly, paid subscriptions are turned off and it will always be free to read what I share here. If you do feel the desperate urge to contribute financially, you can Buy Me A Coffee (but it’s okay, you really don’t have to!)

I post elsewhere online using the name “Clouded Silver”, so if you were wondering about that part of my name here, it’s a species of moth (with the scientific name Lomographa temerata). I regularly trap (and release) the moths in my garden during the warmer months, to help build up a picture of numbers and distribution of species across the UK. You can expect to see the occasional “Moth Trap Diaries” post here, where I go into more detail about what I have found in my trap.

If this sounds like your sort of thing, please do subscribe!

Thanks for being here x
